The mission of the Permanent Deaconate is threefold – service to the Gospel, liturgy and charity. This is a tall order for men who are working full-time jobs and have wives and families. Soon St. Peter’s will have a new Deacon to be in service. Mr. Michael Younginer who grew up in this parish and has faithfully served here in many ways; as a catechist, business manager, RCIA coordinator and on pastoral councils to name a few.
During the last 5 years he has spent time in discernment and earning a Master’s in Theology through St. Leo University in preparation for Ordination. The Diocese of Charleston will ordain 35 men over two weekends; January 30 and February 6. If you would like to attend the Deaconate Ordination in which Michael will be ordained a Permanent Deacon, it will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on John’s Island on January 30, at 11:00 AM.
Please keep Michael and his wife, Bonnie, who has walked this journey with him, as well as all the Diaconate Candidates in your prayers as they approach ordination. And please join us at St. Peter’s for a reception on Sunday January 31 following the 11 a.m. Mass as we celebrate with Michael and Bonnie!
